The Endless Expanse (colloquially known as the Abyss) is the parallel plane of existence to the Realm of the Fae, being intrinsically attached to it and serving great importance over the history of the Realm, notably in the school of summoning magicks and its mass use by Tarik Onyx-Eyes during the First Great War.
Origin
Similarly to the Realm of the Fae, it is not understood from what, where, or why The Endless Expanse came to be, it simply has always "been." However, it has always been inherently connected to the Realm by an interdimensional link; the Realm and the Abyss are believed to be foils to one another, and thus keep each other in a balance of some form. Consequently, the long-standing effects of The Great Sundering has come to threaten this balance by weakening the dimensional barrier between the two planes, and introducing invasive practices to the inhabitants of both (the Realm's summoning magicks and the Abyss's ability to weave fate in the Realm).
