Realm of the Fae

The astronomy of the Realm of the Fae is not equivalent to our own -- while the residents of the Realm may refer to many things in the same terms, the celestial structure is fundamentally different in many key ways.

Stars

The Realm has only one star, Tasion, that Terra orbits around. Tasion is a white subgiant star, although the nature of the Realm's cosmology means that the star will never experience natural death over billions of years. Its nature as a white subgiant means that days on Terra are very bright, but relatively cooler compared to days on our Earth.

Planets

See also: Terra

The Realm has only one planet, that being Terra. In terms of its orbit around Tasion, it spins around much faster comparative to Earth's rotation around the sun, resulting in revolutions that are shorter, thus shorter calendar years as a societal consequence.

Moons

Terra has two moons, Lucina and Orobos. Lucina shares a nearly identical orbit to our real world Earth's Luna, with its being in the center of the night sky being indicative of midnight. Orobos, on the other hand, is a much smaller satellite that has a much wider, elliptical orbit around Terra and further out than Lucina. Due to this strange orbit, it is not useful for timekeeping, and is actually considered a foul omen when it appears high in the sky in some cultures, affecting tides, climates, and other such natural orders while it is in such a state. Lunar eclipses are also relatively common due to this configuration.

Other objects

In place of additional stars such as Tasion to dot the night sky, the outer stratosphere of Terra is dense with Fae souls. These stray souls remain in place in the sky until they are drawn down to be incarnated as a Fae. As such, constellations often come and go in the night sky. The brightness of a soul is correlated to its strength, and its color coordinated with the race it incarnates as. Felis souls are red or red-orange, Canis souls are violet or magenta, Cervis souls are blue or cyan, and Lagos souls are green or green-yellow. These aspects combined allow Fae astronomers to study the density, color counts, and luminosities of these souls to determine the overall health and population of the world and of its four Fae species.

Alongside the incomplete Fae souls that make up the vast majority of the Sea of Souls, there also exist extremely rare Prime souls that survived The Great Sundering and preside in the sky as unfractured wholes. These souls are unable to be incarnated due to the nature of the Realm post-Sundering, and thus remain permanently in the night sky as brilliant white lights, brighter than all other souls around them. These Prime souls are often the core of constellations, and thusly Astrology often revolves around which Prime soul an individual was born under, and the fullness of its constellation at the time of birth, among other things.

Cosmic events

Shooting souls

When souls are incarnated, they can be seen spontaneously accelerating in the opposite direction of the revolution of Lucina, disappearing not long after. These look very similar to that of real world shooting stars.

Soul Floods

Soul Floods are cosmic events that occur on rare occasion where the Sea of Souls calls to Terra for a variety of reasons, such as knighting an oracle. In this process, the Sea of Souls lights up in a blaze of color, much like real world auroras, with the souls emitting their colors. On extremely rare occasion, Prime souls may also emit light, and in these rare events, it is said that Terra lights up as if it were midday.
